Board of Directors

The NVMC Board of Directors is comprised of representatives from a range of Nisei veterans organizations, including the 442nd Veterans Club, Club 100 (100th Infantry Battalion veterans), and Military Intelligence Service; and related organizations including the Maui AJA Veterans Club, West Maui AJA Veterans Club, and Maui Sons and Daughters of Nisei Veterans, as well as at-large directors from the community.

The current board includes:

Hiroshi Arisumi, president
Retired. Cofounder and Chairman of the Board of Arisumi Brothers, Inc.


Daniel Waki, vice president
Retired. Former President and General Manager, W&F Washerette. Represents the Maui AJA Veterans Club.


Leonard Oka, secretary
Insurance agent, Mutual Underwriters. Founder of Maui's Sons and Daughters of Nisei Veterans, the first organization of its kind in the nation.

Wayne Maeda, treasurer
Personal banking officer, First Hawaiian Bank

Retired, was American Savings and Loan Association executive vice president and manager of Hawaii Division.

Retired, was educator and school principal. Represents the 100th Infantry Battalion and 442nd Regimental Combat Team veterans.

The Nisei Veterans
Memorial Center was founded to spearhead the construction of a lasting memorial in Hawaii to the
Japanese American soldiers of
World War II.

Furthermore, as stated in the organization's bylaws, the purpose of the center is "to recognize the youth and the elderly as our greatest resource, and to provide for them as a necessity."
