Nisei Veterans Archives
Over the past thirty years a committed group of volunteers of the Maui's Sons and Daughters of the Nisei Veterans has been collecting interviews, artifacts, books, and other reference materials related to the Nisei veteran story.
We are excited about the construction of the Education Building, which will include a state-of-the-art, purpose-built archive room that will protect the collection from heat, humidity, and rodents - the natural and common enemies of such collections.
We are currently reviewing and updating our collection catalogue in anticipation of moving the collection into the archive room in the Education Building.
"Because of the highly classified nature of their work, their full contribution to America's victory would not be recognized until decades later. When their full story was finally told, it played a major role in securing passage of the Civil Liberties Act of 1988, which Congress enacted in an attempt to redress the injustice of the internment."
