How to Give

Volunteering

There are many ways to help the Nisei Veterans Memorial Center. Some times we need willing hands (to fold newsletters, stuff envelopes), and at other times we need specific knowledge and skills.

We've provided an overview of some of our on-going projects.

Educational advocacy

We are collaborating with various educational institutions and programs to outline a curriculum that focus on civil liberties and civic responsibilities, the experience of the Nisei veterans, and the perspective of Japanese Americans who were interned during WWII.

Speaker bureau

If you are a Nisei veteran, or knowledgeable about their life experiences, we can use your help! From time to time we receive requests from schools to speak to their students about the Nisei veteran experience.

Oral history project

In conjunction with the Maui Sons and Daughters of Nisei Veterans, we are recording the recollections of Nisei veterans on audio (and if possible, video) tape. We need help coordinating the interviews.

Site Maintenance

Each quarter we organize a clean up day at the Center. So join us for a day of weeding, scrubbing, and talking story.

Other ideas?

And we are always open to other suggestions from our supporters. If you have some ideas on how you can help the Nisei Veterans Memorial Center, please give us a call, or email us.
