First Collections Day

April 28, 2007

Veterans, wives, widows, sons, daughters and grandchildren brought photos, Army discharge papers, photo albums, and memories to the Center to help us build our collection for our Education Center.

Volunteers from the Maui's Sons and Daughters of the Nisei Veterans staffing the "intake desk" met with veterans to review what biographical sketches and documents are already in the veteran's file.

Scanners and copy machines were ready to scan photos and copy documents.

Volunteer John Mizoguchi sits with Mrs. Sano to complete a biographical sketch of her husband.

Pakala Takahashi completes paperwork requesting his complete military file.

442 veterans Shigeru Nakamura, Walter Sakamoto and Edward Ogawa look at old photo albums.
Post it notes and pencils were readily at hand so that folks could jot notes identifying people and events in old Club 100, 442nd Veterans, and AJA photo albums.

During our "working lunch" Floyd Nagoshi explained the process of filing for a complete military record.

A very successful day ended with a celebration of the 25th anniversary of Maui's Sons and Daughters of the Nisei Veterans. Emily, granddaughter of a 522nd veteran, had the honor of bringing in the birthday cake.
