The roof tiles have finally arrived and
are on the site. Work should begin shortly on tiling the Preschool
building roof.

The concrete floor of the Preschool's art
lanai is curing.

A traditional rock wall will run alongside
a portion of the driveway. The wall delineates a section
of burial preserve, and it will be one of the ways we pay
hommage to the Native Hawaiian community that once inhabited
this site.
Because it is not just an architectural
feature, but of cultural importance, we put a lot of time and
energy into researching rock walls. We wanted this wall
to reflect the craftsmanship of ancient Hawaiian lava rock
walls. However, it must also serve as a retaining wall on our
hilly site (not a freestanding lava rock wall),
so we had to add some modern structural integrity underneath
and behind the rocks.
A small section of rock wall was built
on the site so that we would all be sure that it had the look
and feel we were striving to achieve. (This photo was taken
on a rainy morning, so the rocks are not actually as shiny
as they appear below).
The footing for the rock wall has been
poured.

The other end of the retaining wall (which
will curve around the Adult Day Care building) is a modern,
poured-in-place structure. Work continues on this end with
the pouring of the foundation for the main stairs that will
lead from the parking lot to the Adult Day Care building.
