Governor Linda Lingle called on Senator Tsutsui and Representative Souki to help her present a ceremonial check of $1.5 million to Center president Hiroshi Arisumi and vice-president Dan Waki. After presenting the check, the Governor, Senator Tsutsui and Representative Souki joined the work crew to "help" smooth the cement slab for the Adult Day Care building. Also helping were Dain Kane, representing the Maui County Council, and Mayor Alan Arakawa. In the early morning the construction crew began wetting down the forms in preparation for the pour. At 7:30 sharp the pour began on the mauka side of the building. Halfway through. Break in the action as the dignitaries help to smooth the cement. Representative Souki led the charge, with Senator Tsutsui (in red aloha shirt) and Governor Lingle right behind. Then the real guys swing back into action to finish up.	"I want the veterans who are here today to know what a privilege it is for me to be in the same building with you, to be able to thank you in a very personal way for what you did for our country. And on behalf of everyone who has held this dream for such a long time, it was to honor you veterans, to find the most fitting and visible way to say we will never forget what you did for our country. What a beautiful way to express that – the keiki and the kupuna coming together. This will be the first center in the State of Hawaii where the children and the seniors will get together on a daily basis. " Governor Linda Lingle July 30, 2005
