EXCERPT FROM VIEWPOINT

"The courage of the Nisei soldiers amidst the sweeping discrimination of Executive Order 9066 seems far removed in time and space.

But in the aftermath of September 11th there is increased support for racial profiling and detention.

It’s not easy to find the proper balance between individual rights and the security of our country as a whole. On this Day of Remembrance it is up to all of us to pause, to reflect, and to ensure that the Constitution stands for all of its citizens, all of the time."

Barbara M. Watanabe
NVMC Executive Director
