Governor Ariyoshi Headlines Benefit Dinner

May 7, 2004

George R. Ariyoshi, three-term governor of the State of Hawaii, will be the keynote speaker at the Nisei Veterans Memorial Center’s fund-raising dinner on Friday, May 7th. A veteran of the Military Intelligence Service, Ariyoshi was an early supporter of the Center, beginning with a contribution in 1992.

Following on last year’s sold out event at Sansei Seafood Restaurant and Sushi Bar, this year’s dinner will be held at the beautiful Grand Waikapu Country Club.

The building is an adaptation of a house plan by Frank Lloyd Wright for actress Marilyn Monroe and playwright Arthur Miller. That home was never built, but the original plans were adapted by Taliesen Architects with an expansion of the overall dimensions to accommodate the country club’s needs, and adjustments to take advantage of the sweeping views of central Maui and Haleakala.

The event begins at 6:00 pm with no-host cocktails, followed by dinner at 6:30 pm. Tickets are $50 per person. Bus service to and from the event will be provided. Invitations were in the mail in early April. Make your reservations early – we expect it to be another sold-out event.

For more information, contact the Nisei Veterans Memorial Center office at 808-244-6862.
