Collections Day

October 13, 2007

Our second Talk Story and Collections Day was another great success. We thank the veterans, wives, widows and children who came to help us develop our collection by identifying people and places in old photo albums, donating articles to our archives, and taking the time to tell their stories.

MIS veteran Tom Yamada is greeted by volunteer Ted Kesaji, as Kunio Ogawa looks on.

Something new that we tried at this gathering was videotaping conversations between veterans and volunteers. Here, local artist Ben Kikuyama is talking with Kunio Ogawa.

Pakala Takahashi (left) talks with volunteer Jill Izumigawa Ross, as 100th Infantry veteran Ed Nishihara looks on.

442nd veteran Kunio Kikuta (right) is interviewed by volunteer John Mizoguchi, while John's sister listens and learns.

It was wonderful to see 100th Infantry veteran Masao Sato! Masao, a long-time board member of the Nisei Veterans Memorial Center, talks with Andy Nagata, son of the late 100th Infantry veteran Tom Nagata.

No get together would be complete without a lot of ono food!

Our thanks to the Maui Sons and Daughters of the Nisei Veterans for their help in hosting our Collections Day.

Our thanks to all who have painstakingly reviewed old photo albums to help us identify the WHO, WHAT, WHERE, and WHEN of many of the photos.

So...when you take pictures, take a moment to jot down this important information. Your children, grandchildren and their children will thank you for this!
